Fun day and refurbishing of Children's Special Needs Center in Maale Adumim

Our project was to organize a fun day for Children at a Special Needs Center in Maale Adumim and to improve their immediate surroundings by renovations, painting, air conditioning, gardening, and more.

The center supplies the various special needs of the children starting from slightly handicapped thru serious handicap, autism, disabilities, etc. The children range in ages between 5 and 21. The children arrive to the center 3 times a week immediately after their individual day time schooling, and remain until 7PM in the evening.

The center is staffed by 3 paid professionals with the aid of a large number of volunteers. At the center, the kids eat, play games, partake in creative activities and watch television, all in a very warm and loving environment.

Our group met with the person in charge of the center, with members of community services (operators of the center) and recorded their requests for our assistance.

The first thing we did was to organize a fun day, which allowed the kids to get to know us, and us to know them. We all arrived on a beautiful summer day to Kedar Park (located not far from Maale Adumim). Our group organized and brought refreshments - Bedouin pita bread with chocolate and cheese, cookies, pastries, ice cream and other sweets, cotton candy, and drinks. Other Kedar residents also joined us and brought with them additional desserts.

Our group kept the kids busy with various action activities, ball games, dancing, etc. The activities lasted 2 hours - and a fun time was had by all.

For the second activity that we sponsored, we received donations of paint, brushes and we were joined by other Outlook/Essence graduates, who helped all of us draw large wall paintings of animals and sea/fish scenes in several rooms.

As you can see in the pictures below, the results were extraordinary!
